Internship - Data Visualization Intern (Cedar Rapids, IA)

Position Summary

The focus of this internship will be participating in the design and delivery of visual interactive dashboards and reports to be used for explanatory and exploratory analytics across the enterprise. The design aspect will require collaborating with internal stakeholders to identify critical business questions and decisions to be answered to ensure dashboards delivered are actionable. Paired with data visualization best practices, this collaborative design process is a valuable experience for any student pursuing a career in business data analytics who has a passion for making data visualizations unique, compelling and actionable.

Essential Information

The GreatAmerica internship program is a tool designed to recruit the best and brightest undergrad students from local college campuses in order to build
GreatAmerica bench strength in the Data Analytics & Insights team. Our internship program allows students to gain first hand exposure to what a career in Data is like. Also, our internships often turn into full-time employment opportunities for students!

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for employment authorization. 
This role will be located on-site in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The timing of this role will be spring term 2023 with flexible scheduling options available or full-time hours during summer 2023.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of enterprise level data visualizations in the form of dashboards and recurring reporting using tool agnostic data visualization best practices. Visualizations may be new reporting areas for the enterprise or the conversion of existing tabular form reporting to more consumable visualizations.
  • Promote a data driven culture throughout GreatAmerica via active participation in a data champion community utilized for knowledge and best practice sharing
  • Proactively research new and effective ways to turn data into actionable insights though best in class data visualization
  • Train end users on new data visualization interfaces as they are created
  • Serve as a resource for data analysts across the enterprise

Education:  Business Analytics, Finance, Information Systems or other related major. Enrolled in school with Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status. GPA: minimum 3.0.

Skills and Abilities


Computer Skills:

  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
  • Expertise with data visualization and dashboard tools such as Tableau, QlikView or equivalent


Other Requirements:

  • Completed course work or demonstrated use data visualization best practices
