We Are Looking to Add a Key Member to Our Legal Team!

GreatAmerica’s Senior Corporate Counsel will work alongside our other attorneys on GreatAmerica’s Legal Team to support the company in successfully executing its mission and vision by (i) counseling and advising the company’s leadership and business teams on a wide variety of transactions and business activities and issues, (ii) assisting the company in identifying and addressing an array of legal, compliance and risk issues, (iii) guiding and supporting the structuring of a wide variety of third party relationships, and (iv) reviewing and drafting documents around the above. Our Senior Corporate Counsel will be responsible for contributing to the company’s strategic plans and initiatives.

As a Senior Corporate Counsel, You’ll:

  • Use Your Sound Judgment and Critical Thinking! You will leverage your ability to analyze and evaluate the legal and business implications of various aspects of GreatAmerica’s business activities, which may include but not be limited to negotiating, documenting and developing business relationships, addressing state and federal law applicable to GreatAmerica’s business activities, addressing risk exposures across a broad spectrum, and addressing issues coming up in a wide variety of legal areas including, e.g., insurance, secured transactions, regulation, etc.
  • Use Your Strong Interpersonal Skills! You will be a point person in service to GreatAmerica’s team members working on various aspects of GreatAmerica’s daily operations by reviewing, commenting on and editing contracts provided by third parties on a variety of issues, and drafting and modifying contracts generated internally.
  • Be an Active listener and Problem Solver! You will provide legal and business advice; attend and participate in meetings; educating others in the company and engaging in other activities that support GreatAmerica’s operations.
  • Be Accountable! When accounts need to be litigated, sent to small claims, sent to a collection agency, or collected and settled you will take prompt action to ensure the appropriate route is taken.
  • Be Detail-Oriented! You will be critical in assisting with developing and structuring new vendor/manufacturer programs designed to meet customers’ needs.
  • Stay Cutting Edge! You will play a role in monitoring, interpreting and reporting on legal-related programs/issues and recommending appropriate action to ensure optimal company-wide performance.
  • Use Your Resources! You will leverage your expertise by researching and anticipating unique legal issues that could impact GreatAmerica and its customers.
  • Be Solution Driven! You will be key to driving us into the future by identifying efficiencies and process improvements for the Legal Team.
  • Have Leadership and Team Support! Work in a team-based solution-oriented environment with a team of Legal Analysts, Attorneys, and dedicated Leadership there to provide support in your role and the execution of our of mission to help our customers achieve greater success.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Juris Doctor required; active bar admission in any U.S. state required.
  • 6+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in a transactional practice.
  • Excellent analytical skills and critical thinking ability to address challenging legal and business issues arising in GreatAmerica’s business. 
  • Exemplary communication skills.
  • Sufficient physical and mental stamina to assist with issues as they arise, with minimal absenteeism.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently and efficiently under time pressures and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Effective organization and prioritization of work while handling multiple matters.
  • Reading, writing and comprehension skills commensurate with a transaction intensive legal environment. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to serve in a supervisory capacity.
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
