Legal - Legal Analyst I (Cedar Rapids, IA - Hybrid)

As a Legal Analyst You'll: 


Legal Analysts are responsible for delivering legal support in all areas of GreatAmerica’s business as described herein and in the Legal Team Mission Statement. 


Essential Functions

  • Apply systems and word processing skills in the creation, coding, maintenance and modification of a variety of documents and document libraries.
  • Review and analyze documents presented to GreatAmerica by third parties, including third party-proposed edits of GreatAmerica documents.
  • Exercise strong verbal and written communication skills in working with (i) fellow GreatAmerica employees, (ii) our vendors, and (iii) our vendors’ customers, in solving problems and resolving documentation and other legal issues.
  • Bring an inquisitive, critical thinking approach to responding to each question brought to the Legal Team, with emphasis on (a) seeking to clearly understand the problem or challenge underlying the request, (b) thoughtfully considering possible solutions in light of the relative risks and challenges involved, (c) collaborating with others on (or outside) the Legal Team to propose appropriate solutions to the problem, and (d) completing the legal work needed to deliver the solution decided upon.        
  • Provide support and training to GreatAmerica employees on an array of legal issues.
  • Assist with maintaining various state filings around the country.
  • Work on corporate matters for which confidentiality may be very important.
  • Provide administrative support to attorneys.
  • Actively participate in company-wide initiatives and help GreatAmerica’s business units and teams attain their goals.
  • Prioritize projects in a manner that addresses the need to meet deadlines.
  • Be present during business hours with minimal absences (per GreatAmerica’s attendance policy).
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner consistent with GreatAmerica’s principles.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to GreatAmerica’s success.


Note:  Under the Iowa Supreme Court rules governing the practice of law, all work involving the provision of legal services is to be done under the supervision of a lawyer.   


Position Qualifications




For all GreatAmerica team members:  Honesty/integrity, customer oriented, accountability, tenacious, good communication skills (oral & written), adaptability.


For this position: Organized, analytical, inquisitive, strong work ethic, critical thinker, enjoy solving problems, have strong communication skills (oral & written).



Education: A bachelor’s degree is required (a paralegal degree is optional).


Experience: Two years of work experience is preferred, but not required.



Skills and Abilities


Computer Skills: Proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience with SharePoint and Salesforce a plus.  Strong MS Word skills


Other Requirements: Must enjoy helping others develop and succeed in a team-based environment involving extensive interaction with internal and external customers.
