Position Summary

We are seeking a Data Architect to provide architectural leadership to support our data initiatives and technologies at GreatAmerica. This is a key role responsible for architecting scalable data solutions, develop technical roadmaps and define transitional and target state data architecture. This architect will work with cross-functional business partners, engineers, program managers and strategic vendor partners to translate business stratedgy and capabilities into data architecture designs and data solutions.

Essential Functions

Major responsibilities of the position are listed below. To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily.  

 

  • Own and be responsible for a cohesive technology landscape for multiple business domains, within the framework of Data Architecture

  • Provide data architectural leadership on multiple, complex initiatives and business technologies
  •  

  • Strategize with business and data stakeholders to define future-state business capabilities, and translate into transitional and target state data architectures
  • Develop and promote technical roadmaps to modernize, enhance, and support the data domain and application set of their business partners
  • Research current and emerging technology, engaging with other architects and engineers to innovate in a risk appropriate manner to accelerate corporate growth

  • Provide support to leadership on build vs buy decisions
  •  

  • Assure solutions are fit for purpose and aligned with the organization’s reference architecture
  • Develop and enrich business relationship with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to gather and share information about business rules, quality rules, calculations, and other important metadata related to data governance and overall management of enterprise data

  • Contribute to creation and tracking of KPIs associated with data strategy metrics
  • Gain knowledge of and use enterprise data tools for governance, quality, and lineage to produce outputs
  •  

  • Consult and advise with enterprise stakeholders on use of data in data management, business intelligence, and analytics tools and platforms
  • Support fellow team members with shared goals and work assignments leveraging experience and knowledge gains in work activities
  • Work with source system partners on identified items related to data feeds, integrations, mappings, and business rules impacting data quality
  • Lead with a data centric perspective, demonstrating a solid understanding of common data management practices
  • Own and maintain data model and architecture supporting digital systems and analytics at GreatAmerica.
  • Lead the data architecture and related technical strategies in the areas of data management, data catalog, data quality, ETL, and data integration.
  • Passionate about designing, maintaining, and documenting data models (conceptual/physical) based on functional areas enabling effective and timely enterprise analytics.
  • Experience with Sales, Finance, Marketing and Product data and related applications like Salesforce, Northteq, Solifi, Epicor, etc.
  • Work closely with data engineering and platform leaders to define best practices
  • Apply best practices using innovative ideas to increase awareness, efficiency, and value delivery of data architecture.
  • Work closely with data engineers to advise on implementation.
  • Recommend and drive architecture/infrastructure to create actionable, meaningful, and scalable solutions for business problems.
  • Actively collaborate in an agile team 
  • Provide technical guidance and thought leadership

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or equivalent experience.

 

Experience:  

  • 10+ years of experience in data warehousing, data modeling, data architecture
  • 8+ years relevant experience as enterprise/data architect or engineer in business analytics and data engineering domain
  • 5+ years of experience working with partners in traditionally non-engineering functions (Sales, Marketing, Legal, HR, Finance, etc.).
  • 5+ years leading the design and integration of data solutions
  • Strong technical skills in data warehousing, SQL, data modeling and working with large scale data warehouses preferably in the Microsoft Data Platform (SQL, Azure) with knowledge of other cloud-based platforms like Snowflake.
  • Proficiency in building Architecture Roadmaps, Systems Design, Solution Architecture, software development lifecycle and with an understanding of Business Architecture methodologies.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities, to assess complex problems, analyze options and navigate diverse perspectives and objectives
  • Familiarity with data quality, data catalog and governance concepts.
  • Strong leadership, relationship building, negotiating skills to collaborate and influence cross-functional leaders while operating on multiple parallel initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written with an ability to present the essence of complex business and technical issues to a wide range of audiences-both technical as well as executive.
  • Experience with corporate data security and compliance procedures and policies
  • Strong knowledge of API concepts, and working knowledge of one or more API integration platforms
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Experience with a cloud-based warehouse
  • Experience in agile development methodologies
  • Exposure and experience with a diverse set of modern data architectures is a plus
