Human Resources - Director, Organization Development (Cedar Rapids, IA)

Position Summary


This position is responsible for managing and supporting GreatAmerica’s leadership and culture shift as we continue to grow and transform into a digital business. Ensures the proactive and effective development of leaders, particularly executives and emerging leaders, to meet our current and future leadership needs. In addition, provide thoughtful strategic input on GreatAmerica’s succession planning and talent development strategies, with the overarching objective of ensuring alignment to achieve our strategic priorities and vision, living out our mission consistent with our established Principles and desired culture. 

Essential Functions

  • Manages organizational development (OD) strategies and processes, which includes executing various leadership development activities, coaching, behavioral interventions to support the success of our efforts.
  • Owns the administration and provides/supports the 1:1 coaching with individual development, deployment, planning, and continuous evaluation and improvement of leadership development programs for executives and emerging leaders (examples include the Leader 360 Review Process, New Leader Development Program, Leadership Accelerator Program, Leader Workshops, Building GREAT Leaders, external leadership development offerings, etc.).
  • Execute established succession planning activities in driving-related development plans for targeted leadership roles.
  • Leads the design, development, tactical implementation, and continual reevaluation of GreatAmerica's programs, policies, and strategies tailored to meet and reinforce the desired culture (WOW!, Outstanding Achiever, Career Achievement, IMPACT, etc.) to ensure it is strengthening the desired culture.
  • Evaluate OD strategies and programs to measure the achievement of established goals. Provides transparent feedback, strategic influence, and acts upon prioritized action plan to continually improve the health of GreatAmerica's organizational culture (ex: Hybrid effectiveness). 
  • Assists in providing expert facilitation and coaching to leaders regarding OD methods and tools. Serves as a skilled facilitator for leading meetings, planning events, or information gathering /feedback sessions as requested 
  • Plans and leads short- and long-term planning for OD programs. Consults with HR/OD Leadership on various HR systems and processes to ensure they support our culture and the organization's current and anticipated future needs
  • Prepares budgetary recommendations that meet departmental goals and effectively manage resources.
  • Meet expected attendance during business hours with minimal absences for GreatAmerica's attendance policy. At times, may need to work out of town, requiring business travel. The director of OD may occasionally need to support night and weekend events.
  • Lives the GreatAmerica principles; involved in cross-functional team efforts as assigned and required
  • Performs other duties as needed

  • Adept with a variety of multimedia engagement and learning platforms and methods.
  • Design and implement practical, experiential, coaching, and self-guided learning and development. 
  • Effectively plan and manage projects/initiatives using agile principles.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Position Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in business and organizational development/organizational behavior. Related experience is considered instead of education. 
  • Six or more years of experience execution in organizational development for operations in a large organization or functional business unit
  • Five or more years supporting leadership development and change initiatives, with a strong reputation for handling confidential and sensitive information appropriately while applying systems thinking mentality to support and evolve an organization's culture
