Finance - Senior Financial Analyst - Enterprise Technology (Des Moines, IA, Hybrid)

Position Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst - Enterprise Technology serves as a key resource to GreatAmerica and the Enterprise Technology (ET) Group with specific emphasis on evaluating the financial implications of strategic opportunities and decisions, evaluating the ETG’s operating strategies and performance, and providing support in the development (and future performance evaluation) of ET’s overall performance targets. The Senior Financial Analyst - ET is responsible for forecasting, analyzing, and reporting on the financial performance of the ETG with regard to budgets (capital, expense, and project). Partnering with key technology, business, and finance leaders, the Senior Financial Analyst - ET will bridge the gap from strategic intent to transparent fiscal accountability to improve efficiencies and capture the maximum value from technology investments. Additionally, the ET Sr Financial Analyst contributes to the development and execution of the enterprise-wide ET performance.



  • Financial Planning and Analysis
    • Leads development of ET’s annual budget and 5-year financial plan partnering with ET and Business Leadership, aligning with corporate and business unit strategic plans.
    • Key resource in the analysis and summary of GreatAmerica ET expenditures and operational performance for ET Leadership, GreatAmerica Senior Leaders, Technology Board Committee Members, and Finance Leaders.
    • Develops and maintains operating and financial models and tools designed to efficiently and accurately forecast ET expenditures and operational performance as well as to evaluate strategic opportunities and decision making.
    • Continuously improves accuracy of analysis and forecasting of GreatAmerica ET performance related to key performance indicators and measures used to identify areas of opportunity, areas with positive and negative trends, and areas of targeted improvement.
    • Assists in the compilation of information for business reviews with ET Leadership to identify areas of improvement and establish plans for continuous improvement to ensure cost-effective delivery of ET services to meet and respond with agility to meet the needs of the business.
    • Work closely with ET Leadership and Business Leadership to optimize technology spend.
    • Works with the ET Leadership team to develop and implement strategies to support the on-going growth, efficiencies, and profitability of the Company.
    • Leads special studies and performs ad hoc analysis to evaluate complex financial issues and prepares recommendations for policy, procedure, control, or action based on results of analysis.
    • Provides financial analysis, as needed, for contract negotiations.
  • Accounting and Financial Reporting
    • Works closely with project managers to develop processes and perform project accounting and reporting as well as analyzing projects’ costs, financial risks, performance, and execution.
    • Assists in the month-end and year-end close process as it relates to ET’s expenditures to ensure for accurate financial statements.
    • Explains ET expenditure budget variances and reports significant variances to leadership.
    • Ensures ET invoices are processed appropriately for accurate financial reporting including the establishment of processes for invoice coding and validation of appropriate classification.
  • General
    • Evaluates GreatAmerica ET’s performance relative to industry benchmarks.
    • Acts as liaison between ET and Finance Teams, working to ensure that ET finance initiatives are well aligned with broader finance initiatives and processes.
    • Lives the GreatAmerica principles; involved in cross functional team efforts as assigned and required.
    • Proactively promotes and participates in process improvement initiatives.
    • Performs other duties as required.

Position Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA and/or MBA is a plus.


Experience: Seven or more years of finance and/or accounting experience.

Skills and Abilities


Computer Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficient with other Microsoft Office applications required.  Knowledge of ServiceNow and Jira preferred.


Other Requirements: Must have exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and possess outstanding computer skills.  Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Role will likely include periodic large project-oriented demands with tight deadlines requiring more than standard work hours and the need to respond quickly. Must be an organized, creative team-player with initiative who responds well to challenges.  Must demonstrate sound business judgment.
