About the Role

The Domain Business Data Analyst II will work closely with business stakeholders to develop and implement strategies to leverage data for enhanced decision making and to generate actionable insights which drive incremental business value for both GreatAmerica and GreatAmerica’s customers.  Communication of these insights either via dashboards or presentations, both written and oral, will be a core function of this role.  Analytics projects will run the full spectrum of the business intelligence maturity model including descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analysis.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen combined with competencies in analytical and technical skills.

Essential Functions

  • Participate as integral component of the Operation Domain leadership teams.Help identify and drive material business capability improvements
  • Participate in the development of the Operation Domain operational reviews.Develop and populate actionable information for the operational review
  • Work with business stakeholders to identify opportunities for use of data to deliver incremental business value to the functional areas and/or business units
  • Gather, profile and analyze data to support analytic requirements
  • Develop data visualizations for both explanatory and exploratory analysis
  • Perform data mining activities following the CRISP-DM process to solve business problems.This will include both predictive and prescriptive modeling
  • Build and manage models to forecast key company metrics and to better understand the underlying drivers of their performance.Conduct model validation activities post deployment
  • Communicate analytical results via both written and oral presentation to business stakeholders
  • Identify gaps in data collection and collaborate with engineering on data capture specifications
  • Promote a data driven culture throughout GreatAmerica via active participation in a data champion community utilized for knowledge and best practice sharing.
  • Educate business stakeholders on the value of analytical approaches (including Key Performance Indicators, trending, forecasting, etc.)

For this position: Business Acumen, Analytical Skills, Technical Aptitude, Problem Solving, Self-Motivated, Accuracy, Detail Oriented.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Finance, Math, Information Systems, Statistics or relevant field.  Master’s degree or professional certification in business analytics is a plus.

Experience: 1 – 2 years of experience performing analysis in a business setting with a history of deriving actionable insights from complex datasets

Skills and Abilities

Computer Skills:

  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel
  • Excellent SQL experience writing queries to acquire data from complex data sets
  • Expertise with data visualization and dashboard tools such as Tableau, QlikView or equivalent
  • Experience with predictive modeling scripting languages a plus
  • Experience with a data science or machine learning platform such as DataRobot, RapidMiner or equivalent a plus

Other Requirements:

  • Strong business acumen with the desire to understand the core drivers of business behaviors
  • Solid understand of statistics with ability to explain statistical concepts to non-technical audiences
