Position Summary

Position Summary

 

The Information Security Technician is responsible for the day to day operation of information security solutions designed to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of GreatAmerica information assets. 

The position will also be charged with the identification, investigation and resolution of security incidents detected by information security systems, reported by team members, or identified through internal or third party findings.

 

Essential Functions - Security Solution Administration

  • Support and contribute to the overall company information security posture
  • Perform daily administrative tasks related to all in-scope information security solutions.
  • Perform daily operational real-time monitoring and analysis of security events from all in-scope information security solutions.
  • Coordinate information security policy, standards and procedures with applicable third party service providers and GreatAmerica team members.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Information Security industry, including awareness of new or updated security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors.
  • Tune the existing security monitoring systems so that false positives and false negatives are minimized in order to provide both accurate and useful information for action.
  • Collect and maintain data needed to provide standard metrics to the Information Security Committee.
  • Participate in the development and maturity of security operations processes.
  • Assist with security control testing and verification.
  • Escalate identified issues to leadership in a timely manner.

 

Essential Functions – Information Security Incident Management

  • Assists with containment of threats and remediation of information security incidents during or after an incident.
  • Provide security related on-call emergency support, as defined by standard operating procedures.

  • Performs post-mortem analysis with logs, network traffic flows, and other recorded information to identify intrusions by unauthorized parties, as well as unauthorized activities of authorized users
  •  

  • Utilizes the documentation of a predetermined set of instructions or procedures to detect, respond to, and limit consequences of a malicious cyber-attack.
Position Qualifications

Position Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of experience in a Security Operations Center or Cyber Security Incident Response Team in lieu of education requirement.
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical expertise, close attention to detail, excellent critical thinking, logic, and adaptive learning.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of fundamental security and network concepts (Operating systems, intrusion/detection, TCP/IP, ports, etc.)
  • Experience with detective and response related cybersecurity solutions desired.
  • Experience managing cases with enterprise SIEM or Incident Management systems.
  • Experience supporting network investigations.
  • Experience with scanning and vulnerability management.
  • Experience with advanced malware protection.
  • Experience with security incident management.

Education:

Associate’s degree related to information security preferred, but not required.  Experience in information security system administration may be substituted for the requisite education.

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 2 years of experience working in the information security field.
  • Experience in executing information security policies and standards.
  • Excellent knowledge of technology environments, including information security elements.
  • Exposure to data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications, and outsourced systems.
  • Good understanding of computer systems characteristics, features, and integration capabilities.
  • Understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving security problems.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to security.

 

Certifications:

  • GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) or CompTIA Security+ preferred, but not required.
