Position Summary

Position Summary


The Director, IT Quality Assurance role’s primary responsibility is to develop, establish, and enforce quality assurance standards and measures for the information technology services within the organization (i.e. – we are doing the right things, the right way).  This individual will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate IT processes through careful testing in order to maximize the benefit of business investments in IT initiatives.




  • Establish the processes and checkpoints criteria to ensure quality requirements are captured, implemented, validated, rolled out and supported for each project
  • Set the quality measurement metric for each stage of a project lifecycle (from conception to retirement)
  • Enforce the quality assurance related activities, including but not limited to aligning business needs with IT solutions, validating the processes and checkpoints are followed before proceeding to the next steps, testing and verifying launch criteria and post-launch test plans, across different teams involved throughout the projects
  • Verify that the team members of the projects are held accountable for the ‘quality’ delivery as defined in each stage
  • Lead the development, establishment, and enforcement of quality assurance measures and testing standards for new applications, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout their development/product lifecycles
  • Ensure that software quality measures comply with regulatory standards, industry standards, and accepted best practices
  • Direct the analysis of formal test results in order to discover and report any defects, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws
  • Ensure change control processes, practices, and guidelines for new and existing technologies adhere to QA standards
  • Responsible for the selection and appropriate usage of automated test tools
  • Liaise with vendors and suppliers in assessing applications and/or systems under consideration for purchase
  • Develop and write test plans and scripts for tracking defects and fixes in product development, software application development, information systems, and operations systems
  • Develop and apply metrics to determine the readiness, quality, and operability of software, systems, and products due for release
  • Identifies and implements areas for improving efficiency, shortening of test-cycles, adapt to existing automation frameworks and automate test scripts
  • Create and communicate test plans and scripts that will determine optimal application performance according to specifications
  • Conduct internal audits to measure and assure adherence to established QA standards for project management, software development, application integration, information system performance, and corresponding documentation
  • Participates in cross-functional discussions to review the impact of application changes from both internal and external interfaces
  • Responsible for initiatives to support continual QA process improvements, and the integration of the QA process with other development activities
  • Initiates and completes test escape and root cause analysis, testing lessons learned, recommends future process improvements and defect prevention
  • Responsible for the team’s hiring process and coordinates team involvement in the selection of new team members: makes the final decision to hire, with input from the team, functional resources, and Human Resources as appropriate
  • Communicate and educate the organization at all levels the processes, policies and importance of quality assurance and hold the responsible parties accountable
  • Work proactively with Software Architects, Solutions Architects and Enterprise Architect to ensure quality assurance processes and measurements are aligned with Enterprise Architecture
  • Drive continuous improvement for product and software quality associated actions and initiatives.
  • Train and mentor QA team members
  • Proactively addresses basic performance or conduct issues in an appropriate and timely manner consistent with TMIP
  • Oversees shared team responsibilities (i.e., team coverage, effective team meetings, report review, contests, celebrations, etc.) to ensure team effectiveness
  • Lives the GreatAmerica principles; is involved in cross functional team efforts as required and assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Position Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent requiredMasters degree or relevant continuing education preferred




  • Minimum 8 years direct experience in overseeing the project planning, design, development, and implementation of quality assurance standards for software testing  and roll outs
  • Minimum 8 years direct experience as a lead tester for major application integration and/or major application product release
  • Strong knowledge of system testing best practices and methodologies
  • Experience with operational aspects of Information Technology and business operations
  • Extensive Experience with (formally or project-based) leading teams from various functions


    Skills and Abilities


    Computer Skills:

  • Experience with core software applications (Infolease, Informatica, Microsoft, MuleSoft, OnBase, Salesforce, and Tableau) is desirable
  • Excellent PC skills and technically fluent in programming languages including Java, .NET, SharePoint, SQL
