Solution Architect (Cedar Rapids, IA)
Position Summary

Position Summary


This position is responsible for reviewing business requirements, leading architectural designs, defining implementation approach and guiding software architects and developers, as well as technical project managers to ensure sustainable solutions are provided with cross-platform compatibility.

    • Design and execute the overall solution for the assigned projects and ensure quality of solution architecture.
    • Work closely with Software Architects to ensure the solution follows best practices and tenants established for the technology platforms involved and each solution is achieved as designed.
    • Work closely with Application Architects to ensure that business applications’ technology strategies for each platform are defined and fit into the overall framework of enterprise architecture by leveraging existing enterprise assets
    • Work closely with Domain Owners, Data Architects and Enterprise Architect to develop and implement IT architectural standards and technology roadmaps, focusing on applications and platform solutions based on new technology trends and devices in the market.

      • Work with Business teams, Domain Owners and Enterprise Architect to review business drivers, needs, and strategies and understand implications to the application architecture.


    • Review and approve system and interface designs of overall solutions and provide guidance on alternative solutions as needed.

      • Provide input to the creation of project initiation documents including objectives, scope, technology approach, and supplier selection when needed.
      • Establish criteria and perform application technology evaluations, including analysis and proof of concept along with supporting analysis and documentation.


    • Proactively works with Enterprise Architect, Application Architects and Development Community to seeks out new technologies, develop and execute a roadmap for adding this technology to our environment.
    • Educate the leadership team on technology trends and provide insights.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Information Systems or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.



Experience: Minimum of 12 years of practical work experience required. Experience facilitating and leading work sessions with technical and business teams to produce related technical design documents and deliverables for large complex projects. Experience communicating applications solutions and strategies as well as implications to both technical and non-technical teams, and leadership. Require deep analytical understanding of technology design patterns. Experience in introducing and rolling out new technology trends and products to an organization. Require expert knowledge in object-oriented principals, application design, usability, validation and error handling, Service-based architecture (WCF, Mulesoft, or similar; REST API), Cloud-based environments, Architectural elements, Programming languages such as C# or Java; Must be well-versed in web environments, .NET or Java IDE; Expert level knowledge in database related work such as complex data modeling and design, complex queries and stored procedures, development, capabilities (such as SSIS, SSAS Cubes, Service broker), data strategy, and optimization, and other technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, XML, JavaScript, jQuery, etc. Has knowledge and experience with Agile methodology, ITIL and LEAN. Fluent in creating flowcharts, wireframes, and/or other system artifacts and system design tools and have experience with project management and related frameworks. Must be an expert in Testing/QA process related to development and implementation phase of the project life cycle. Require experiences in setting best practices, standards, policies and procedures; Need to be able to drive and manage technology transformations.



Computer Skills: Expert knowledge of MS Office products and Design & Development best practices preferred
