Systems Business Analyst (Cedar Rapids, IA)
  
Position Summary

Position Summary

The successful candidate acts as an intermediary between the business and technology groups, working with IT and business clients to collect, clarify, and translate business requirements into documentation and conceptual design (using appropriate tools and models) from which applications and solutions are developed.  The Business Analyst will play a pivotal role in ensuring IT’s understanding of the business requirements.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop a deep knowledge of supported business areas and the business applications utilized.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully and simultaneously work on multiple initiatives with conflicting objectives and timelines.
  • Conduct interviews to gather user requirements via workshops, questionnaires, surveys, workflows, and use cases.
  • Work with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements.
  • Identify request stakeholders.
  • Translate customer requirements for requests for proposal.
  • Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility and conformity to standards.
  • Develop and utilize standard templates to accurately and concisely write business requirement specifications.
  • Contribute to non-functional technical requirements.
  • Apply business requirement rigor based on request level
  • Where applicable, translate user stories into functional requirements that are comprehensible to the developers and project team.
  • Where applicable, develop prototypes of interfaces and attributes based on user requirements.
  • Create process models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction to developers and/or project team.
  • Manage and track status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle.Enforce and redefine as necessary.
  • Communicate changes, enhancements and modifications to business requirements.
  • Engage Architecture Forum, RISC and Solution Architect as needed.
  • Support functional testing activities as needed.
  • Analyzes, documents and tests program development, logic, process flows and specifications.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to conduct user acceptance testing.
  • Ensure quality is maintained in the requirements gathering process.
  • Extended hours may be required to meet deadlines.

            Education:

Four year degree in Information Systems, Business, or related field

 

            Experience:

  • Three to five years’ experience in information systems
  • Previous role demonstrating the ability to comprehend technology and it's applications
  • Previous Business Analysis experience

     

                Skills and Abilities

  • Able translate “back of napkin ideas” into actionable business needs, logic, process and data flows
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships
  • Understanding of the various software development lifecycles (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
  • Excellent understanding of business complexity, existing technical capabilities, and project interdependencies
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to question thought partners across functional areas
  • Demonstrative ability to solve problems
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Ability to partner with software engineers and quality analysts to identify course of resolutions
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and take action
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure
  • Strong familiarity with information systems used by GreatAmerica

 

            Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

 

 

            Other Requirements:

            Nice to have: BA Certification, Familiarity with SalesForce.com

            Must have: Facilitation experience
